HISTORY

Prospector Partners, LLC (Prospector) was formed in 1997 by John D. Gillespie after over a decade of experience at T.Rowe Price & Associates. Along with advising institutional private funds and separate accounts, Prospector is the sponsor of the Prospector Funds, Inc. family of mutual funds, formed in 2007 to provide retail clients access to Prospector’s investment strategies.

TEAM

Prospector's most important asset is our experienced, cohesive team: three portfolio managers with decades of combined experience lead a home-grown, sector-focused group of analysts who perform their own proprietary in-house research. Prospector Funds, Inc. utilizes the entire Prospector Partners Team.

APPROACH

Prospector approaches value investing from a credit perspective, with an emphasis on value-based principles and bottom-up fundamental analysis. Our in-house, deep-dive research is key to our approach, focusing on regulatory and statutory statements when available, in addition to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). We look at balance sheets first, cash flow second, and income statements last, paying special attention to marked to market balance sheets and private market value for capital-intensive businesses. Direct interaction with company managements is preferred.
